Guennady Vavilov (born in 1932) is the great composer being awarded the titles â??People's Artist of Kareliaâ?, â??Honoured Art Worker of Russiaâ?, professor of the Glazunov State Conservatoire in Petrozavodsk. Those were such distinguished figures as E. O. Messner, E. K. Golubev, O. A. Yevlakhov to have been his preceptors in the Moscow and St. Petersburg Conservatoire, which he graduated from in 1966. Since that time Vavilov lives and works in Petrozavodsk. Gennady Vavilov's piano music is truly considered to be the special page in his creative work: 16 sonatas, 14 piano suites, among them â?? the ones, based on the Karelian and the Finnish folk-lore â?? â??Piirilejkkiâ?, â??Runesâ?, â??Native Strainsâ?, â??Iojkhuâ?, cycles of piano pieces, as large-scale as â??The Northern Albumâ?, â??The Way to the Sunâ?, â??Etudes-picturesâ?, novelles, more than one hundred programme-miniatures. All these compositions did not only enrich the world composition palette of the second half of the 20th century, not very abounding in piano creations. They also seemed to determine the perspectives of this genre development in the 21 century.
