A figure that helped transform the sport into the modern era during this and is pictured here in 1924 with the Washington Senators nicknamed "The Big Train," Johnson is widely regarded as one of the greatest pitchers in all of baseball history. Following his retirement from playing, Johnson went on to manage the Senators, followed by a stint managing the Cleveland Indians until his eventual retirement from his career in 1935. Johnson led the league in strikeouts, holding a Major League record of twelve seasons as the pitcher with the most, followed by another iconic pitcher, Nolan Ryan. Johnson is also the only pitcher in history to hold four hundred wins during his career and strike out nearly four thousand batters.
