Item description
Vintage original 12 x 18 in. US pressbook from the silent film reckless driving-themed comedy, PAINTING THE TOWN, released in 1927 by Universal Pictures and directed by William James Craft. The cast includes Glenn Tryon, Patsy Ruth Miller, Charles K. Gerrard, George Fawcett, Sidney Bracey, Max Asher, and Monty Collins.
This vintage original silent film pressbook consists of 8 pages. The tops of page 5-8 were not machine-cut during the printing process, so it opens differently than it normally would (see accompanying photos). It is complete in overall fine+ condition with one horizontal and one vertical fold; a 2.25 in. diagonal crease on the bottom left corner; a 1 in. tear on the front cover along the right edge; and a small amount of splitting at the right end of the horizontal fold. The colors are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading. As it is folded, it can be shipped in a Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope.
Plot: Patsy Deveau, a Follies girl, accompanied by Raymond Tyson, a city millionaire, is stopped by a policeman for speeding; while Tyson is paying the fine, Hector Whitmore, a smalltown inventor, imagines he is making a hit with Patsy displaying his inventions, including a car capable of traveling 150 miles an hour and stopping in two car lengths. She pretends to be flattered and casually suggests he see her in New York; he faithfully follows. Tyson persuades her to play along, hoping to sell Hector's car to the fire department; his initial attempt at a demonstration is sabotaged; Patsy, however, disgusted with Tyson, pleads Hector's cause. Hector takes the official on a perilous drive, refusing to stop until the contract is signed. Having thus proved the worth of his wonder car, he wins the contract and Patsy as well.
