Item description

Vintage original 8x10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the classic 1930's musical comedy/romance, FLYING DOWN TO RIO, released in 1933 by Radio Pictures and directed by Thornton Freeland. An aviator and band leader (Gene Raymond) who is always getting his group fired for his flirtatious behavior with the female guests soon finds himself falling for an engaged woman (Dolores del Rio). the image features an exterior close shot of the handsome aviator, Roger Bond (Gene Raymond), wearing traditional aviator's attire of the period as he sits inside the cockpit of a vintage biplane while he raises his goggles to look at someone off-camera. Printed on single-weight stock with a glossy finish, this vintage original photograph is in fine+ conditoin condition with a 3.5 in. vertical crease near the top right corner that is in the upper background area; light signs of wear in the top half of the right border; and several creases of varying sizes on the bottom right corner that go into the background area. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws and the image quality is razor-sharp with very fine detail and beautiful contrast. Originally conceived by RKO as a vehicle for Dolores del Rio, this film is most notable for its star-making pairing of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. In supporting roles, the two relative unknowns smoked up the screen in a dance number called "The Carioca". It generated such a positive response from critics and fans that they were eventually reunited in nine subsequent films. In the "Flying Down to Rio" musical number, many of the girls on the airplane wings are wearing see-through tops, as the Hays code, introduced in 1930, was not enforced until 1934.
