Barnabas Collins (Depp), descendent of a prosperous British family resettled in Maine, is condemmed to a living death by a jealous witch (a vampish Eva Green). When his coffin is accidently exhumed 200 years later, in 1972, he rises from the dead, as a vampire, and trys to help his now-impoverished family while reuniting with his lost love, who has seemingly been reincarnated. But the witch who sealed his fate is still up to her old tricks. Amusing spin on the vintage daytime TV drama created by Dan Curtis (with cameos by the original stars). Depp seems to be having fun, but the film never reaches the comic heights one would hope for and so it just seems kind of weird. The lavish production designs that recreate the '70s is a real plus.
