Item description
Vintage 8x10 in. US single-weight glossy restrike photograph (not a vintage original photo printed at the time it was taken but one that was printed from the original negative) from the popular silent film drama/romance, THE EAGLE, released in 1925 by United Artists and directed by Clarence Brown. The image features a great interior medium shot of the Czarina Catherine II (Louise Dresser) pouring a drink from an ornate glass bottle as she gazes at handsome Russian Lieutenant Vladimir Dubrovsky (Rudolph Valentino), who is not enjoying the amorous attentions of his royal superior.
Printed on single-weight stock with a glossy finish, we at first thought this was a vintage original photo printed in 1925. However, the dark vertical area along the right border. along with the writing in the negative beneath the top border, indicates that this photo was printed from the original negative (due to the superior image quality) most likely in the 1930's or possibly the early 1940's. It is in fine+ condition with two light 6 in. horizontal creases in the upper left background area that end just before Valentino's head; two 0.75 in. horizontal creases in the right background area; and two areas of light and unobtrusive diagonal scuffing on the bottom of Valentino's jacket with a 1.25 in. horizontal area of scuffing in the lower right background area.
