Limoges is both a city and a region in France, and porcelain works of art from this region can be designated, by French law, as "Limoges Porcelain". In this region, a number of artists and craftsmen, some working independently, and others working as part of a larger factory, produce the boxes known as "Limoges boxes". Handmade and Signed Individually Every Limoges porcelain box is formed with great care into a unique shape, hand-painted and adorned with a decorative clasp. Each Limoges box is signed by the artist and marked with the words, "Peint Main" -- hand painted, Limoges, France.
