Item description
Burlington #5628 EMD GP20 Locomotive ? Mantua/Tyco HO Scale
Classic Burlington Red and Silver Livery
HO Scale (1:87) Powered Locomotive (NON-FUNCTIONAL) | Manufacturer: Mantua/Tyco | Road Number: 5628
CONDITION NOTE: Motor hums but does NOT run when tested. Missing handrails. Needs cleaning. Sold AS-IS for parts or repair. See full condition description below.
This Mantua/Tyco HO scale model represents an EMD GP20 diesel-electric locomotive in the Chicago, Burlington Quincy Railroad's distinctive red and silver paint scheme with white "Burlington" lettering. This model operates on standard 2-rail DC track systems compatible with most HO scale layouts. The GP20 was one of EMD's turbocharged "second generation" road switchers, with 260 units built between 1959 and 1962.
The Burlington Route operated a fleet of GP20s primarily in freight service across their Midwest and Western network. These locomotives represented the railroad's transition from first-generation cab units to the more versatile hood unit designs that would dominate diesel locomotive production through the 1960s and beyond.
This model features Burlington's classic red carbody with silver roof and ends, capturing the railroad's clean, modern diesel livery of the late 1950s and 1960s.
Model Details:
Manufacturer: Mantua/Tyco vintage HO scale production
Configuration: GP20 hood unit with powered chassis
Paint Scheme: Burlington Route red and silver
Current Status: Motor hums but does not run; missing handrails; needs cleaning
Working Features: Horn and bell details intact
For Parts or Repair:
This locomotive is sold AS-IS for parts or repair. The motor energizes and hums when power is applied but the unit does not move when tested. The model is missing handrails and requires cleaning. However, the horn and bell details remain intact, and with cleaning and mechanical repair, this could be restored to operating condition. This could serve as a repair project for experienced modelers, a parts donor for shell swaps and detail parts, or a restoration candidate for vintage Mantua/Tyco collectors. The body shell retains the classic Burlington paint scheme and could be used on a functioning chassis with replacement handrails.
Full Condition Details:
Motor hums when power is applied but locomotive does not run. Missing handrails on both sides. Body and chassis require cleaning. Horn and bell details are present and intact. Sold strictly AS-IS with no warranty or guarantee of functionality. Recommended for experienced hobbyists, parts harvesting, or repair projects only.
Keep on chugging guys! regards TTs Trains
