Item description
TAMBURAS
By Karlheinz Grosser.
Translated to English by Kathleen Szasz.
New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, (1967).
First American edition, first printing.
"First published in the United States in 1967" statement to the copyright page.
An epic high-adventure historical novel set from 529-522 B.C. featuring a bastard son of the Tyrant of Athens, who flees for his life from his brothers and becomes involved as a seafarer, a warrior, a leader, and a tactician, as he becomes the Persian army's commander and prepares to conquer Egypt.
An exceptionally well-preserved quality first edition.
Lower corner tips minutely bumped, else very nearly fine, tight, and square in black linen with blind embossed decoration to the front cover and with gilt embossed titles and elaborately decorative rules to the spine, black-and-white headband and tail-band, illustrated end-papers, upper page edges a lovely red, deckle page fore-edges; in a fine dust jacket illustrated by Richard Smith; original printed $6.95 price and 0967 date code still intact to the front inner flap.
The dust jacket will be placed in a clear protective, removable sleeve after photographing for this entry.
