Item description
This toasting fork was used to toast bread in front of an open fire. The person using it stuck a piece of bread onto the fork tines (prongs) and held the bread in front of the fire until it was done.
In England, toasting forks date back to at least the mid-16th century. They were typically used by those in the middle and upper strata of society.
We attribute this toasted bread fork to Thomas Turner Co (England) although the mark is laid out different than those shown.
