Item description
THE MAGNIFICENT CENTURY:
The Pageant of England
By Thomas B. Costain.
Garden City, New York: Doubleday Company, Inc., 1951.
First edition, first printing.
1951 date printed to the title page, "First edition" statement to the copyright page, $4.50 price printed to the jacket's flap.
Illustrated.
The second chronological installment in the pleasantly readable Pageant of England history series, offers a portrait of King Henry III and the years from 1216 through 1272.
Mild, very small surface indentation to the front cover, lightly rubbed to the corner tips and upper and lower spine edges, else about near fine in burgundy linen with gilt embossed royal lion family crest to the front cover, and with gilt embossed titles, rules, and decorative borders to a slate-blue panel to the spine, red-and-yellow headband and tail-band, slate-blue and cream end-papers with lion crest patterns; in a very good faintly foxed dust jacket with short tears and crimps to the shelf-edges, small chips and nicks to the upper and lower spine edges, some age-toning and rubs to the spine panel, and separation at the front flap fold; original printed $4.50 price still intact to the front inner flap.
After photographing for this entry, the jacket will be placed in a protective, removable, clear, quality Bro-Dart sleeve.
Octavo; 384 pages; bibliography; index.
