Item description
6.25" x 9.25", 92 page hardcover with dustjacket titled STERLING C. EVANS: TEXAS AGGIE, BANKER, CATTLEMAN by William N. Stokes, Jr./ Friends of the Sterling C. Evans Library and The Federal Land Bank of Texas, First Edition, Copyright 1985/ The library at the Texas A M University was named in honor of Evans - one of the university's largest benefactors. This is his biography. August 5, 1899: Sterling C. Evans was born in Devine, Texas. Evans, the namesake of Texas A M's Sterling C. Evans Library, was a successful banker and rancher. He graduated from Texas A M University in 1921 with a degree in animal husbandry and was the school's leading student in livestock judging during his tenure. Evans was a member of the Junto Society while at A M, the university's chapter of the liberal arts college organization. Upon graduation, Evans went to work for the Texas Agricultural Extension Service at Texas A M. While working for TAES, Evans traveled the state to work with county extension agents and helped with the development of 4-H programs. While working for TAES in December 1922, he met his future wife, Kate Thomas, at a county cooperative meeting in Sherman. In 1932, Evans was named president of the Houston-based Farm Bank for Cooperatives. After several years at that position, he was promoted to president of the Federal Land Bank. He was also a member of the Association of Former Students. He helped found a loan fund for families wanting to send their sons to A M. Evans also served time on the board of the Texas A M Research Foundation and on the board of the Texas A M Development Foundation. He served on the Texas A M University System Board of Directors (Board of Regents) from 1959 to 1971, and was president from 1963 to 1964.
The book is complete and in FINE condition with some overall wear mainly to the dustjacket which has some light edgewear.
