Item description
THE CELEBRITY:
An Episode
by Winston Churchill
New York: Grosset Dunlap, Publishers, [circa 1905-1913].
Vintage reprint.
Originally published by Macmillan in 1897.
A famous author, dubbed the Celebrity, goes away for a summer escape in disguise as a bicycle salesman, in this humorous novel peopled with numerous delightful characters, a crime, a detective, and the undercover author's ulterior motive.
Churchill's first published novel created a sensation, especially when speculation spread that the featured celebrity author was based on Richard Harding Davis.
This popular novelist was of no relationship to the British Statesman.
Light wear and fading to the upper spine edge, a tiny surface nick to the shelf-edge of the upper rear cover, else very good in red linen with black embossed titles to the front cover, and to the spine which is also adorned with a decorative illustration in black; in a good to very good dust jacket with spotting and tanning to the spine panel, chips to the upper and lower spine ends and corners, and with general minor staining.
