Item description
Vintage original 41 x 81 in. US three-sheet poster from the 1960s medical-themed drama, THE CARETAKERS, released in 1963 by United Artists and directed by Hall Bartlett, about mentally-ill patients and their professional caregivers, as well as the new group-therapy sessions aiming to replace the traditional physical restraint and electroshock treatments. The cast includes Robert Stack, Polly Bergen, Joan Crawford, Diane McBain, Janis Paige, and Van Williams.
Printed on two panels, this example was never used and is folded as originally issued in very fine condition as shown.
Several of Joan Crawford's scenes were cut from the film prompting Crawford to complain via letter to director Hall Bartlett saying, "There is no rhyme nor reason for my performance in 'The Caretakers', since you have eliminated my scene with McBain, and all cuts and looks that I played subtly to indicate my attraction for Stack. Cutting the scene where McBain accuses of me of being in love with Stack was drastic beyond belief; and my one big scene of trying to sell Herbert Marshall on my old-fashioned ideas was the crux of my performance. Anyone could have played my part as it stands now. I'm heartsick beyond belief."
