THE LION AND THE MOUSE:
A Story of American Life
by Charles Klein
Novelized from the play by Arthur Hornblow.
New York: G.W. Dillingham Company, Publishers (1906).
First edition, first printing.

A complete novelization of Klein's best-regarded play, written by the author and editor of Theater Magazine, Arthur Hornblow. (Not to be confused with his son Arthur Hornblow, Jr., a famous film producer).
A woman tries to hold her own against a big business man.
Adapted to the 1928 Warner Brothers silent film starring Lionel Barrymore and May McAvoy.
Klein wrote the libretta of Sousa's operetta EL CAPITAN and was a prolific playwright, with several of his plays adapted for film including the numerous adapted film versions of THIRD DEGREE.
Mr. Klein died during the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915 at age 48.
Very scarce SIGNED, and even more so, Double SIGNED!
Former owner's name and 1906 date to the upper inside front cover, mild stain spots to the outer upper page edges, light fading to the spine, faint soiling to the covers, else very good in red linen with red raised titles to a gilt embossed panel to the front cover, and with slightly tarnished gilt embossed titles to the spine; lacking a dust jacket.
