Item description
MY OWN PHILOSOPHY by Werner Eggerth
Donnelley Sons (Lakeside Press), 1909
First Edition
Condition: Very Good
The author's only publication, this is a book of verse -- early and later poems, humorous poems, translations and dramas in verse -- even his philosophy is rendered in verse. A 3-page biography of the author at the front reveals that he had a life of great misfortunes (cared for his first two wives who were both handicapped and both died of illness; he himself was deaf for much of his life), but his philosophy was largely one of optimism. He lived in Iowa and Washington; there are some old Iowa newspsper clippings, seemingly unconnected with the author, inserted in the back. Opposite the title page, it states that "only a limited number of copies (of this book) have been published". This is a solid, firmly-bound copy with cover corner wear, a tear on the lower edge of the front cover and some other modest edge wear, a bit of spine fading and a small bump on the bottom edge of some pages. A uncommon title.
