Printed in the laboratory of the Photo Service Department, National Audubon Society. Measures approximately 8 x 10. Condition: This is an original photograph, not a copy or reproduction. It is in excellent condition. Comments: Carl William Buchheister was a conservationist, administrator, field naturalist, and President of the National Audubon Society serving in that position from 1959 to 1967. Earlier he was Executive director of the Massachusetts Audubon Society, and Director of Audubon Camp in Maine. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1901 and died in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1986. He received his B.A. at John Hopkins University, and did post graduate work at Pace College and Bowdoin College. During his tenure with Audubon he built stronger bonds with state and local chapters and societies, ironed out organizational rifts, encouraged children to become active in conservation and natural history, and revamped the societys magazine Audubon, and applied modern methods of public relations and fundraising.
