Item description
Up for sale is an authentic piece of American industrial history: a vintage Dietz Highway Torch (commonly known as a "smudge pot" or "cannonball flare"). Made in the USA, these heavy-duty steel spheres were used by highway crews and railroads from the 1930s through the 1960s to warn motorists of construction and hazards.
This torch features a classic self-righting weighted bottom design and clearly displays the embossed "DIETZ HIGHWAY TORCH" lettering on the side. Wonderful rustic, weathered condition with a great natural patina. Surface is rusted and has a few dents and dings. Inside looks to be completely rusted and it has not been tested with fuel.
This item came from a family estate collection that I have been asked to help sell. The original owner was a big fan of railroad collectables and HO scale model train enthusiast. This item is in good vintage condition. Please see photos for more details and to assess the condition yourself. Also be sure and check out the other items I have for sale and message me if you want to combine orders. Thank You.
For local pick up, item is in North Huntington Beach (area code 92649). I can also meet along the 405 Freeway between Huntington Beach and LAX.
