Hardcover. 252pp. Duodecimo. Sans dust jacket, as issued. This book was based on the James Whale film "The Bride of Frankenstein" (1935) starring Elsa Lanchester and Boris Karloff. Hastily written by Hamilton as a hack work to coincide with the film release the 1936 first edition was originally published in England in 1936 under a pseudonym (Egremont) in two versions supposedly in large numbers but scarce nonetheless probably as a result of the fragile bindings. The book was originally planned to follow the shooting script of the film but was an impossibility due to time constraints to get the book published in haste. The edition offered here is a near fine to fine copy (see photos) published by Bookfinger of New York in 1976. A couple of the outer corners of the rear cover are lightly bumped as shown. The book was issued in a print run of only 1000 copies and printed in England by Queens Row printers and binders (now defunct) with 225 pages as in the first 1936 edition. This 1976 hardcover edition seems a bit scarce. I obtained this book along with another copy from Philip Riley over 25 years ago when he was living in Palm Springs, California. Philip was an authority regarding classic horror films and authored several books relating to this genre and edited a 2012 paperbound edition of ?The Bride of Frankenstein.?
