Item description
BING GRONDAHL 1955 Christmas Jubilee Plate
Dybbøl Mill
is the title of the Bing Grondahl (B G) 1955 Christmas Jubilee Plate, commemorating 60 years of B G Christmas plates 1895-1955. It depicts the Dybbøl Mill, located in Northern Slesvig (Denmark) near the border with Germany. Slesvig changed hands many times between Denmark and Germany, with Germany conquering and annexing Slesvig in 1864. A plebiscite was held in 1920 following World War I and Northern Slesvig voted to be reunited with Denmark. The Dybbol Mill is often used to represent the unity of Denmark.
Designed by Margreth Hyldahl. The scene is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted in traditional Copenhagen blue under the glaze. Diameter approximately 9 inches (23 cm). Pierced foot for hanging wire. Appropriately marked on the back including the three tower trademark of Bing Grondahl.
The first Jubilee Plate was issued in 1915 to commemorate 20 years of what has become the world’s most popular and longest running series of collector plates. Jubilee plates were issued every five years through 2015, all in the large 9 inch size, each featuring a scene taken from a popular Christmas plate from the past. The 1955 plate features the motif that was first used on the 1947 Bing Grondahl Christmas Plate.
EXCELLENT CONDITION (no chips, cracks, or repairs) and FIRST QUALITY (no scratch through the trademark).
