Item description
Antique St. Louis World's Fair (Louisiana Purchase) miniature ruby flash glass mug, inscribed with the owner's name "Vira Doegg, Worlds Fair 1904." (Her name may have been Vera, but could have been spelled incorrectly by the artisan. The surname is also commonly spelled Dge.) Measures approximately 2.5" tall. Condition: The middle band, which by design is a circular white stripe which wraps around the mug, has been largely worn away. Otherwise, excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Comments: The Louisiana Purchase Exposition, informally known as the St. Louis World's Fair, was an international exposition held in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, from April 30 to December 1, 1904. Local, state, and federal funds totaling $15 million (equivalent to $509 million in 2023) were used to finance the event. More than 60 countries and 43 of the then-45 American states maintained exhibition spaces at the fair, which was attended by nearly 19.7 million people.
