Michelle Pfeiffer stars as Beth Cappadora, a mother of three, and a successful photographer. Her life is turned upside down when her three-year-old son Ben disappears during their high school reunion. Despite a police investigation, there is no sign of her missing son, and Beth's family life rapidly deteriorates. Nine years later the family has moved to Chicago, and when a local neighbourhood boy offers to mow their lawn, Beth recognises him as Ben. She struggles to wrestle the boy away from his new family and form a loving relationship with the teen.
