Item description
Merle Edelman - E.G.DESIGN
RECTANGULAR 1970'S LAYERED COLORED LUCITE (ACRYLIC) PAPERWEIGHT/SCULPTURE
MERLE James Edelman (B.1930) was a known independent American Artist/Designer. This lucite (acrylic) paperweight/sculpture is a montage of green, orange, red, Blue. All visible from different angles. A MINI kaleidoscope. Reminiscent of a Piet Mondrain painting..
It bears a worn Edelman round sticker on the bottom. It has minor signs of wear from age and a mild amount of age acrylic crazing.. (See image). None of the aforementioned detract from its appeal.
The corners are sharp and there are no edge chips.. The colored blocks are confused with those of Vasa Velizar Mirich (B.1933).
Edelman was a native of Ohio. He studied Art at Temple University, Tyler School of Art in Glenside, PA. He graduated, however, from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1952. He won the prestigious Asa Page Scholarship. He studied in Europe and around the world. He had a studio on the Upper East Side in NYC.
EDELMAN did contract work for.
1.Tiffany 5th Avenue
2.Conde Naste
3. NBC
4. Casa Bisque
5.Rubel Canada
6.Tuscany
Many more!!!
His works have been exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art. At 17 years old, his sculpture of a boy was exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The seller befriended Merle in 2017 and visited his residence in Trump Tower.
These beautiful acrylic objects d'art are highly sought after. A good investment. These are hard to find in this fine condition.
