Item description
Rare, vintage photograph of Pocasset School in Tiverton, Rhode Island. Located on Main Road in North Tiverton, Pocasset School was opened in 1952 and remained in it's original state for 20 years. Then, in 1972, an addition was added to the front of the school. At this time the front stairs were demolished and the original front doorway was converted into the entrance way to the new addition of the school. For the next 35 years the school remained virtually unchanged. Then, in the fall of 2007, the original building was, sadly, demolished to make way for a new, updated building. This photo, taken in 1964, shows Pocasset School in its' original incarnation. At this time, Pocasset was a junior high school that taught 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The first floor classrooms were occupied by the 7th grade while the second floor classrooms were for the 8th grade. These second floor windows afforded a spectacular view of Mount Hope Bay. The 6th grade meanwhile, had only a single classroom that was located in the basement near the lunch rooms. In this photo you can see the front windows of the first and second floor classrooms as well as the front basement windows. These basement windows, on the right side were in the boy's wood working shop, while those on the left side were in the girl's home economics class. Above the front door can be seen the semi-circular sign with the word Pocasset and underneath, School. The front stairs are also visible. It was on these front stairs that the annual photograph of the entire graduating class was taken. On the vast front lawn is the flagpole with the American flag flying majestically in the breeze. Don't miss this limited time opportunity to obtain this rare photograph that will surely invoke memories of a long gone, carefree, innocent era. Photo is in mint condition, processed from the original print and measures approximately 8 1/2 by 11 inches. Please note that the logo will not appear on the photograph. Photo will be shipped in a poly bag with a sturdy cardboard backer and wrapped carefully for protection during mailing. Shipping is $3.00, United Staes shipping only. ****** MONEY ORDERS, AS WELL AS PAYPAL, NOW GLADLY ACCEPTED ******
