Summary:

Welcome to the streets of Miami where the season opening rounds of the 1995 PPG IndyCar World Series and the Player's Ltd./Toyota Atlantic Championship will be featured on this challenging circuit.

I'm sure the Marlboro Grand Prix of Miami presented by Toyota will prove to be full of thrilling competition.

After a seven-year absence, the PPG Indy Car World Series and the world's finest cars and drivers roar back into South Florida for their first-ever visit to Miami's downtown street circuit as the Marlboro Grand Prix of Miami presented by Toyota kicks off the 1995 IndyCar schedule this weekend.

The 1995 IndyCar season, the seventeenth in the CART era of U.S. open-wheel racing, consisted of 17 races, beginning in Miami, Florida on March 5 and concluding in Monterey, California on September 10. The PPG Indy Car World Series Drivers' Champion and Indianapolis 500 winner was Jacques Villeneuve. Rookie of the Year was Gil de Ferran. This was the last season before the formation of the Indy Racing League by Indianapolis Motor Speedway owner, Tony George, and the last time the USAC-sanctioned Indianapolis 500 would appear in the Series.

About the Organization:

On behalf of the Staff of Miami Motorsports, Inc. I'd like to welcome our fans, sponsors, and media members from around the world to the Marlboro Grand Prix of Miami presented by Toyota.
In 1995, race promoter Ralph Sanchez brought open wheel racing back to Miami. In the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, Sanchez began redeveloping a devastated area of Homestead, Florida, into the Homestead Motorsports Complex. From 1983–1993, Sanchez had promoted very successful IMSA street circuit races at Bayfront Park and Bicentennial Park on Biscayne Bay. Sanchez revived the Bicentennial Park circuit for one season as a CART race, while Homestead was still under construction.
