A reissue of a reissue, this 1995 Collectables package is the same as EMI's 1991 Legendary Masters entry on this New York vocal group from the early 1960s. Hits like the title track, "He's Got the Power" and the original version of "Do-Wah-Diddy" are class-A New York rock & roll all the way, and lead singer Brenda Reid's chops are as exciting, always making the material more interesting than it sometimes is. Very interesting are the inclusion of the longer unedited versions of "Tell Him" and "He's Got the Power," both remixed here in true stereo. Though not technically a girl group (they featured a male bass singer in the lineup), the Exciters were one of the best working in the genre. ~ Cub Koda
