The George Inn, Nunney, Somerset, UK.

A historic inn, set in the ancient village of Nunney, famed for it's castle.

Nunney originates from Saxon times [ a Saxon chieftain 'Nunna' gives the village it's name origination].

Roman coins and a villa have been found here, and the Church of All Saints just up the road has Saxon cross and a Norman font [ which I was baptised in].

You can dine and stay at the George in fine style, using it as a base to discover nearby Stonehenge, Bath and the Roman baths , Longleat House and it's famous animal park [ The Lions of Longleat]., and then explore the beauty of The Cotswolds, which is right on your doorstep.

The George is opposite Nunney castle [ entrance is free] , - built 1373.

The George has a sign on a beam across the road [ which is quite a rarity ], and when Black Judge Jeffries [ a notorious late 17th century judge infamous for his willingness to hang many and any ] held his travelling court in The George, it is believed the beam across the road was used to hang various poor peasants from.
