Chicago housewife Grace Beasley (Kathy Bates) is abruptly dumped by her husband Max (Dan Aykroyd) who needs his space.

Meanwhile, a Chicago serial killer has just offed closeted lounge singer Victor (Jonathan Pryce), leaving his in-the-shadows lover Dirk (Rupert Everett) to battle with Victor's sister Nola (Lynn Redgrave) over his estate. Fan Grace meets Dirk at Victor's funeral, they bond, and decide to hunt for Victor's killer together. Hey, it's one way to deal with unresolved feelings.
