This is a Hard-To-Find, ANTIQUE, EXCELLENT Condition, Hand Turned "Carved Bovine Ox Bone Thread Spool Winder Central Spindle" handmade in the 1830s. My neighbor recently passed away and I'm helping her family sell off her extensive collections. This Thread Winder Spindle was notated in her Estate inventory as "Antique Hand Carved Bovine Ox Bone Thread Spindle - NO Barrel - 1838". Displayed inside a glass cabinet as part of a sewing notions & tools collection, it is in EXCELLENT Condition with minor age appropriate wear and brownish patina spots from the hand oils of the Original owner; as noted, this is a Spindle with Disc ONLY. The overall Condition is EXCEPTIONAL, given its age, and it comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home. The Spindle has a length of approximately 7/8ths of an inch; it is NOT Marked or Signed. Both the Spindle and Disc have graceful shapes and nicely detailed features.
ENTIRELY hand carved from Bovine Ox Bone by a SUPERBLY talented artist who has created a HANDSOMELY BEAUTIFUL sewing accessory. The OUTSTANDING workmanship has WONDERFUL texture and flowing lines. Carefully carved, these GORGEOUS pieces are lustrous with a slightly yellowish hue. Highly collectible, the pieces are well-weighted, dense, and have a feel as smooth as butter. All it needs is an Antique Winding Bone Barrel Container that is missing it’s spindle and you’re ready to wind.
