Description
This is a very old cluster of pale purple quartz (amethyst) carved grapes assembled with fiber-covered wire to nephrite jade carved leaves to make a realistic looking decoration.
The grapes still have some of the "skin" of the stone on the outside. When I cleaned them with an antiseptic wipe, very little dirt came off, so the dark areas are part of the stone itself. These were done by hand rather than by machine and date to the early 20th century at the latest. There are 3 grapes missing and a number of fissures in many of the grapes, although the leaves are in much better condition. This is still a very pretty piece.

SIZE: This item is 7" by about 4" and is about 2 3/8" tall.
BACKGROUND: I recently bought a number of things from the estate of a neighbor who had several thousand figurines, boxes, and other knicknacks from many different makers. This was one of her oldest pieces.
