Item description for Vintage Jan Michaels Golf Club Golfer Brooch Pin Brass Charms Dangles

This antiqued brass brooch was created by Jan Michaels, the well-known San Francisco Bay jewelry designer whose pieces have been sold worldwide. She started her career in the early 1980s and made leather ties and bow ties for men. This brooch was designed in the shape of a golf club or driver head with the image of an old style golfer framed in the center and a golf ball on the side. There are three dangling charms, two golfers and a golf bag filled with clubs. Her timeless pieces of jewelry are truly wearable pieces of art. This piece of jewelry was one of her short lived “Man Michaels Collection” early designs that were made for men. This is most likely from the early 1990s. It is stamped on the back with her logo that says MAN MICHAELS S.F. rather than JAN MICHAELS S.F. It is truly a collector's piece as her early pieces that were designed for men are hard to find. There is a hole in the top of the brooch that you can use to hang the brooch from a golf bag or on a necklace chain. It measures approximately 3 inches tall (including the dangles) and 2 ¾ inches wide. There is a secure rollover safety clasp pin closure on the back.

Her jewelry is created using an antiqued brass that has a dark golden patina to it. The figural brooch representing the head of a gold club is in very good vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The front has some darkening/patina, it may have been intentionally done as she was known for her distressed finish pieces of jewelry that were made to look worn and used. There is some darkening on the back of the brooch on the rectangular hallmark tag. I have not polished the brooch as many people prefer the older patina that forms with age, I will leave that up to you if you so desire. I think it looks great the way it is.
