Operation:
Mastic is a resin of the evergreen reed bush (Pistacia lentiscus L.) that grows mainly in the Mediterranean. The unique variety P. lentiscus cv Chia is grown exclusively on the Greek island of Chios. In 1997, the European Union awarded it the label of a product with a protected geographical origin. The resin was obtained as an exudate after incisions were made on the trunk and larger branches with a sharp instrument.
Modern science has confirmed its action, so in 2015, the European Union entered Chios mastic in the herbal monograph as a traditional herbal medicine for the treatment of dyspeptic disorders, for the symptomatic treatment of minor skin inflammations and as an aid in the treatment of minor wounds.
Clinical studies with Chios Mastic:
ulcer of the stomach and duodenum
Helicobacter pylori
dyspepsia: pain, burning, feeling of discomfort and nausea in the stomach, feeling of pressure and bloating, loss of appetite, return of gastric contents to the esophagus (so-called reflux), nausea (with or without vomiting).
Chios Mastic has been used for more than 2,500 years in traditional Greek medicine. The ancient Greek doctors Hippocrates, Dioscorides and Galen recommended the use of Chios matica for the treatment of various gastrointestinal disorders, such as abdominal pain, dyspepsia, gastritis and peptic ulcer.
