K-19: Widowmaker
Set in 1961 at the height of the Cold War, "K-19 The Widowmaker" is a beautifully filmed submarine epic from director Kathryn Bigelow that's based on actual events, though is not a direct historical interpretation like "Apollo 13," for instance. I thought the majority of the cast was absolutely brilliant, particularly Liam Neeson, Peter Sarsgaard, and Christian Camargo in very challenging roles. Unfortunately I found Harrison Ford to be...well...Harrison Ford. Don't get me wrong, I like Harrison Ford, but here he comes across as a caricature of a Soviet submariner and sports a terrible Russian accent. I appreciated his (and certainly Bigelow and the crew's) desire for authenticity, but his performance was stilted, and I thought Neeson was far more convincing in his role as the more paternal commander.
