Vintage original 27x41 in. US advance one-sheet poster from the hit 1980's action/adventure fantasy, CONAN THE DESTROYER, released in 1984 by Universal Pictures and directed by Richard Fleischer, in which Conan leads a ragtag group of adventurers on a quest for a princess (Olivia d'Abo).
This is the more rare advance one-sheet poster ("Coming Soon to Select Theatres") and depicts a large image of a hunky, long-haired and bare-chested Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) in the top half with cast members Wilt Chamberlain, Olivia d'Abo and Grace Jones below him amidst a battle scene. Unrestored and folded as originally issued, this vintage original advance one-sheet is in near-fine condition with a water stain in the two bottom panels that is not visible but which has caused light rippling in those panels only and several diagonal creases on the bottom corners. There are no pinholes, tears, or other flaws.
Arnold Schwarzenegger was set to return once again as
Conan for the spin-off film, Red
Sonja (1985), and the abandoned third installment, "Conan the
Conqueror." However, in 2014 Schwarzenegger announced he was finally going
to return as Conan for the first time in 30 years in The Legend of
Conan, which is rumored to take place many years after Conan the Barbarian (1982) and it
will ignore this film as if it never happened. Wilt Chamberlain and Grace
Jones didn't get along on set. Chamberlain had to keep asking Jones to
turn down her boom box. Grace Jones put two stuntmen
in the hospital by accident with a fighting stick; she trained for 18 months to
prepare for the film.
