Vinyl plays nicely (play-tested). Cover looks great; very-light scuffing (front/back). Inner sleeve is original (lyrics/photos). Redwood insert included. Spine is easy-to-read. Minor shelf-wear along top/bottom-edge and corners. Opening is crisp with signs of light use. (Hole-punch in top-left.)
The Spirit Is Free, by folk singer Ronnie Gilbert, features songs that display Gilbert's activist mindset. As a ten year old child, she said, "Songs are dangerous, songs are subversive and can change your life." That attitude toward the power of music has shaped Gilbert's career. She was an original member of the group The Weavers, along with Pete Seeger, Lee Hays and Fred Hellerman. The Weavers were an influential folk-singing group that was blacklisted in the early 1950s, during a period of widespread anti-communist feeling, because of the group's left-wing sympathies. On the back of the album The Spirit Is Free , Redwood Records states, "It's been 20 years since Ronnie has recorded a solo album. Those 20 years have been filled with theatre, mothering, study, and living. But we sure are glad she's making music again. And we're glad to be part of it."
