Note that while this pottery is beautiful as a decoration, remember that it is high quality stoneware that is crack, chip, fade, and scratch resistant, making it great for actual everyday use. Colors will not fade. For pieces used as cookware, heat distributes evenly release with little or no oil, making for an easier clean-up. The pottery has good temperature retention to keep foods hot or cold for a more extended period of time than regular dishware. A little history about this beautiful style of pottery for those new to buying...Boleslawiec stoneware originated as a type of folk art in the early 1800s and the tradition continues in the small Boleslawiec village located in Poland. Skilled artisans create these cherished stoneware designs out of a special white clay that is found only in this region and each piece is hand made throughout the entire process. The designs are created using patterns inspired by nature that are carefully and thoughtfully cut into dried sea sponges gathered from the Mediterranean Sea. These sponge designs are then hand applied to the piece until the traditional pattern layer is finished.
