He is presented as a force of nature, a man whose good intentions to settle down to his studies and successfully embark upon a life in medical practice are constantly being thwarted by his brawling physicality and thirst for a life of action. From the outset, we sense that Peter's dilemma will only resolve itself in decisive, brutal action - we do not realise quite how brutal this is going to be."
