1993 REGULAR SEASON GAME vs. FLORIDA STATE (31-24): After #1 ranked Florida State scored early, the Irish then poinded the Seminoles vaunted defense for 239 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The stout Notre Dame defense held tight to preserve victory and end Florida State’s 16-game winning streak. That legendary contest – in which No. 2 Notre Dame shocked No. 1 Florida State 31-24 in South Bend – could stand as the greatest regular-season game ever played. Consider the backdrop on Nov. 13, 1993. ESPN GameDay made its first-ever on-campus visit for the occasion. Bob Costas’ intro on NBC set the tone! The game lived up to all that hype.
Notre Dame scored the first touchdown on a 32-yard reverse by Adrian Jarrell and built a 24-7 lead. Charlie Ward rallied the Seminoles and had a chance to tie the game on the final play, but Shawn Wooden knocked the pass down to seal a 31-24 upset.
