This handmade artisan copper pendant and necklace replicates a real working abacus (ancient calculator). Medium gauge wire is formed into a rectangular frame and vertical crossbeam which are hammered by hand to strengthen. Fine gauge wire is then used to thread dark metallic copper seed beads onto the abacus. The beads move freely enabling the pendant to be used as a real abacus. The pendant hangs from a necklace of fine copper cable chain attached to handmade hook and eye clasp matching the pendant. This unique and beautiful necklace would make a perfect gift for a math or computer lover.
Copper - I use natural 100% copper wire to create copper jewelry items. It is not treated with a lacquer or wax. Copper naturally oxidizes over time and develops a patina. Some people love that look and some prefer to keep it shiny. Slow the oxidization process by wiping your copper jewelry with a soft clean cloth before and after each use to keep it clean. You can easily clean oxidized copper jewelry and return it to bright and shiny by soaking it in a mixture of lemon juice and salt for 30-60 seconds, rinse with water, and dry. Try it with a penny.
