Comments: Mr. and Mrs. John Sumner Williams were the subject of a book titled, "John Sumner Williams and Helen Katherine Montgomery, Their Ancestors and Descendants, 1461-1987," by Robert T. Williams and Catherine Pinckney Williams. John Sumner Williams was born on July 24, 1864 in Monson, Maine. Helen Katherine Montgomery was born July 10, 1870. John was descended in a direct line from Richard Williams, the first American family of Williams, a settler in Dorchester, Massachusetts in 1633. Helen descended from the Alex Montgomery family, emigrants from Ireland to Canada in 1853. John was educated at Monson Academy and the University of Maine, and graduated from Boston University Law School in 1890. They resided in Guilford, Maine where they had seven children including: Hugh Montgomery, John Haynes, Roger, Victor Francis, Matthew, Edwin Ruthven, and Helen Anne.
