This is a great looking figural brooch of three people wearing what appears to be African tribal dress. They could be women or men as it is abstract in design. It is signed on the back “Finks”. The brooch measures approximately 2 ½ inches wide and 2 ¼ inches tall. The brooch was cut out of worn and rusty tin from an old barn roof and hand painted.
Marcia and Bill Finks have been creating art together since 1989. They noticed dilapidated barns on country roads, and began to rework the tin roofs from the barns into artwork. They cut and painted the metal and created jewelry and art inspired by Native American, Aboriginal, and African Art. Today their work is nationally recognized and has been featured in magazines and newspapers; House Beautiful, House and Garden, Elle Décor, Vogue Living, Country Living, Redbook, Martha Steward, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Newsweek and more. Their work has also been shown on The Oprah Winfrey Show and HGN. It has also been featured at various Art Institutes.
This brooch is one of their older pieces, most likely from the early 1990s and is in great pre-owned condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The tin has worn spots, paint splotches, etc., but this is done on purpose as it is part of the charm of the old tin that came from the barn roofs. It is not damage but part of the creative handmade nature of the piece. It has a gold tone roll-over clasp pin on the back. This would be perfect for any fan of the Finks. It has a wonderful primitive tribal appearance and will a nice accent piece with any outfit. It would also make a great focal center piece for a shadow box to hang on the wall.
