The HC-SR501 is a Passive Infrared motion detector which detects changes in infrared in front of it, triggering a high signal on the output pin.

There are 3 pins, VCC, Output and GND. Supply between 5V and 20V.

There are two adjustable potentiomiters, The one in the bottom right of our picture adjusts how long the output stays high for and the one bottom left adjusts sensitivity.

The output is either 0V or 3.3V so it's safe to use with either 5V or 3.3V Arduinos and Raspberry Pis without level shifters.
