Paper size of this direct photo print is 2 1/2" x 3 9/16". This print is on Velox paper which was inconvenient in ways but returned a superior and more lasting direct contact print and that is why commercial art studios and professional photographers used it. "Velvet Green Velox" logo on reverse. This print was very likely made soon after it was taken and likely at Saipan itself or on a ship there. This came to me as part of a group identified as being Saipan and included was a shot of the base Chapel which confirms it. The exact date was not noted and as the island is listed in Guinness as being the most consistent climate we can't really tell what time of year this is. The photo lot clearly is after the island was secured but might not be too long afterwards as several show some men relaxing by a field howitzer next to a jungle road, and I don't think they left too many of them behind. Another shows a shore battery on a beach only yards from the water and again, I don't imagine they left it exactly there for too long. But either way they are clearly WWII and the possible time frame is limited. Oh and yes, some Marine or Soldier may have snuck in for all I know but they appear to be most if not all Navy men.
