These antique horses were in a collection for many years and I have had them some time since. Brought to America well before WWII and standing out from other ceramics offered online of dubious origin. A foot tall not even counting the ears. I have looked to ascertain materials and construction and I believe them to be plaster cast and detailed with hand painted lacquer decorations and finish. About half the black on the bases has flaked off; otherwise wear or damage is minimal. One has a touch of wear to the ear tips, the other has a small nick nick into one of the the ears, chip out of one of the hoofs and a small chip out of the back of the saddle. It is not impossible there is some small blemish I missed but they have survived far better than most. I have not made any attempt to either clean or restore them.
Identified to me by the previous owner as "Chinese Tomb Horses" and date attributed to 19th century.
Top quality collector's item, not something seen every day.
