An original, one-off sand painting, from HD Asian Art, based on 13th century murals depicting white elephants - considered sacred in Thailand and Burma.

The mural is as found in the temples of Bagan in Myanmar (Burma). Originally, commissioned by the United Nations in 1973 (to provide an historical record of the ancient murals) it is the great-grandson of the original UN commissioned painter who continues the tradition today.

The paintings are prepared with sand from the Ayeyarwady river. This base produces a similar effect to the Temple walls where the originals of these images can, in some cases, still be found.

Acrylic paint is then applied to create each intricate design. Each of these conversation pieces is hand painted and completely unique. The painting is unframed.
