I have here a vintage or antique light fixture possibly from the 1920’s-1930's through the 1960's, but not quite sure? It is made from a bronze metal material with highly detailed embossed designs. It's a sturdy beautiful hanging light that can easily be turned into a fixed ceiling fixture or a swag style lamp and would look stunning in the corner of a bedroom or living room. The fourth picture shows what it would look like with the frosted glass panels which I have, and will be included in this listing. Some of the glass panels have a starburst engraved in them and some only have a plain frosted glass. This is a great light fixture for a French Country or romantic French Provincial style décor, this can also be used for an Art Deco, Art Nouveau, and Hollywood Regency look in your home.
CONDITION: The light socket states "Leviton", “Made in the USA - UL 660 W - 250 V Lamp Holder.” This light measures approximately 14” inches tall by 9” inches wide at the top and 5” inches wide at the bottom. It also has the old style cloth covered wires, so it will need to be rewired and a new socket to more modern standards. It is in excellent condition, however, the problem is that I could not find the frame clips that hold these frosted glass panels in place. You will need (6) of them for both top and bottom of each bronze window frame (see last photo).
Leviton History
Leviton was founded by Isidor Leviton in 1906. After immigrating from Russia to the United States, Isidor Leviton opened up a small tinsmithing business producing mantle tips used for gas lighting. Soon with the introduction of Edison’s light bulb, the small family business shifted production to manufacture a single electrical product -- the pull-chain lamp holder. From that one electrical device, Leviton has been churning out groundbreaking products that improve electrical safety, enhance communication, provide efficiency and cost savings and add convenience and value to our world.
1900s- 1920s
During our earliest years in business, the population of New York City began to increase dramatically. Homes, apartment buildings, skyscrapers, offices and factories were quickly being built and Leviton supplied the switches, outlets, light sockets and other electrical parts for them. By the end of the 1920s, we offered more than 550 different electrical devices in our product catalog and outgrew our facilities in Manhattan’s Bowery, relocating to a larger quarters in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We also began acquiring other businesses to add a pool of skilled employees to our workforce and increase our production capacity.
1930s- 1940s
In 1937 we acquired American Insulated Wire Company, adding wire, cable and cord products to our offering. Two prestigious New York area landmarks showcased our products. One was the 102-story Empire State Building and the second, the World’s Fair site in Flushing Meadows Park. During the 1940’s Leviton helped manufacture parts for machinery used to win World War II and helped produce the bead-chain used in American GI’s ID tags.
