In this
day and age of hip hop music, it is hard to find an MC who is
just nice and even harder to find and artist who can take it
back to the days of blunts, forty's, beats, and rhymes. Well
search no further cause Black is back. Black Attack (aka. Sean
Boston) is the MC we've been longing for. Cool as a fan but
rugged as hell when necessary, Black has a flow only the best
of artists can comprehend. He may not be a Jay Z, or a
Jadakiss, or even a 50 cent, but I guarantee he can flow with
the best of them. Born in upper Manhattan but raised on
Roosevelt Island , Black was just your average kid. A momma's
boy at heart, Black strived to be down. Not as wild as others,
his size and personality made him part of the crew. By the time he was 13 Black decided he wanted to
be a rapper. Flowing for his friends and battling in school,
he became very confident in what he was doing. He got his
first chance to prove himself at Grandmaster D's (of Whodini)
birthday party in 1993. Alongside such pioneers as Kool G Rap
and Nice and Smooth, Black put on the performance of a
lifetime requiring an encore. After successfully conquering
his first task as an MC, Black got with the group S.O.P
(Smoked Out Productions). S.O.P consisted of four MCs and a
crew as deep as the Wu-Tang Clan. The group became an instant
underground favorite. The S.O.P stickers could be seen
everywhere from lamp posts and buses in NYC to garbage cans
and palm trees in Miami. After a hit
single and a ton of outside interference, S.O.P split up.
Then, through mutual contacts, Black met Al Tariq (formerly
Fashion of the Beatnuts). Tariq had just left the Beatnuts and
was working on his album God Connections. Black fit right in
and got down with Tariq's manager Peter Kang, and ultimately
signed a single deal with Correct Records. Holdin' it
down/Verbal attack featuring Problemz became an instant
underground classic. Getting spins on Stretch & Bobbito,
Hot 97, the song finally hit the wall of fame in L.A. on power
106. Just as he thought he was on his way,
Correct Records flopped. Black had already established himself
well enough to move on and so he did, hooking up with V.I.C of
the Ghetto Pros. Black then dropped the single My Crown which
also became a hot item in the underground rap world. While
working withV.I.C, Peter Kang introduced Black to DJ Honda. Honda was working on his first US
album H1, and Black was pleased to lace the album with the
gritty but blazin' song F*** Dat. Honda also resided on
Roosevelt Island so it wasn't long before the two hooked up.
Black was then introduced to an up and coming label called
Pentagon Entertainment. Black was now working harder than
ever, recording with DJ Honda while putting out another single
with Pentagon; My Word (produced by Sean C) / F*** Is Going On
(produced by The Alchemist.) Just as Black and the label began
to make progress, the CEO was murdered. Another opened door
that led to a dead end for Black. With
V.I.C on his side and DJ Honda set to start H2, Black never
dreamed about stopping. By that time Black and Honda recorded
numerous tracks that were ready for wax. Black's features on
H2 included two solo tracks and a posse cut alongside Cuban
Linx, JuJu (of the beatnuts), A.L, Al Tariq and Problemz. With
H2 set for release, Black hooked up with Al Tariq for Al
Tariq's European tour. Tariq and
Black made the trip a success, blazing stages from Italy to
Germany. They spent two weeks in Europe and came home ready to
make it happen By that time
Honda released H2 in Japan and was set to leave on a two week
promotional tour. "Blaze It Up", one of Black's features on
H2, was set to be the second single released off the album. So
Black accompanied Honda to Japan to promote H2 and his single
Blaze It Up.Upon returning from Japan they
decided to shoot the video for the single. With Blaze It Up
already making noise in Japan, the US version was ready to go.
The first single was "On the mic" which featured Cuban Linx,
JuJu, AL, Al Tariq, Problemz, and Black. The video was a
success getting play daily on rap city. Black, Tariq and
Problemz then took off on the H2 tour hitting LA, San Diego,
San Francisco, Seattle , Canada and New York. Honda then left
Sony which led Black, Tariq and Problemz to form the group
Missin' Linx. Again the buzz was out, the group was hot, but
to no avail. Black found himself in the same spot he was in
when he first started, nice as ever but with no deal.
