These vintage elegant goldtone Tortolani dangle earrings have a half-egg shape on top, which resembles an elaborate Easter Egg or a football. Attached to the top portion are 8 rope chain strands or tassels suspended from the nicely detailed dome cap. The design on the top section resembles leaves on vines. The leaves are open work cut out, which allows the light to pass through and gives them a very dimensional look. The earrings are both signed “© Tortolani” in script or cursive on the back. These measure approximately 3 inches in length and ½ inch wide. They are rare and hard to find, I could not find another pair for sale anywhere on the Internet.
Tortolani Jewelry was created in 1950 by Frank Tortolani who came to America from Italy. He founded the Mastercraft Jewelry Company in Providence, Rhode Island in the 1920s and after WWII he moved to Lost Angeles and created Tortolani Jewelry, which produced fine custom jewelry. The jewelry was popular from the 1950s to the mid-1970s when he stopped designing jewelry. The older pieces of his jewelry have the “©” in front of the name Tortolani.
These are in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The clips work just fine and have pad inserts for comfort. Please look at the photos for the best details as they are part of the description.
