Civil War era field glasses made in Paris, France. 


The following markings are visible on the field glasses: "Vendome, Paris; Day & Night; Signal Glass". 

 

This is a high-quality binoculars made by the French maker "VENDOME PARIS" (marked on eyepieces) These were designed for land use (not very water resistant) and have telescoping front sun shadow sleeves for bright day use and are engraved DAY & NIGHT on a focus sleeve. These are quite powerful, about X7 and have clear optics without evidence of mold or distortion. It has a century of patina on the outside without notable dents (*the left eyecup does have a dent). All mechanisms and features work freely. This is about 8" max / 6 1/8" minimum long with about 2 3/8" diameter front optics sleeves. This is readily useable and a super decorative look or fabulous if refurbished.
