Extremely Rare CD 1906 Presentation Pattern Tael

Kuang-hsü Specimen Pattern Tael CD 1906 SP61 NGC, KM-Pn300, Kann-934, L&M-16. An exceptionally rare and original striking of this Pattern, well-preserved overall and magnificently toned. Despite some chatter in the fields, the smooth surfaces are clearly on display, an important diagnostic in determining what are considered original strikes from the restrikes. Also of importance is the weight of this example, being 38.75g, which is 2g heavier than the average weight of the restruck issues. This exact example is referenced in Top Chinese Coins (ed. Michael Chou, Ron Guth, and Bruce Smith) on page 108, which discusses the weight of this piece and the types of dies used.
